Tower Bridge

The Tower Bridge is a drawbridge over the river Thames. It was opened in 1894 and connects the borough of tower hamlets on the north side with the borough southwark on the south side. The bridge is 800 feet in lenght and consits of 213 feet. The bridge was opened by Edward, prince of Wales and Alexandra, princess of Wales. Originally hydraullically powered, the operating mechanism was converted to an electro hydraullic system in 1972. The bridge is part of London Inner Ring Road and thus the boundary of the London congesting charge zone, and remains an important traffic route with 40000 crossings every day. The Tower Bridge is named for the Tower of London. The architect is Horace Jones. Constuctation start was on the 21 june 1886. It is 213 feet height.
